INTRODUCTION
By Clive Branson
Welcome
to my
fishing manual and my secret techniques & methods.
It has always been an ambition of mine to put to-gether a
full illustration on all aspects of coarse fishing and in particular
the methods I use.
With methods and techniques changing drastically over the
years, I feel it is now time for a reference book on catching different
species of fish and with the advent of the computer and the Internet
which is an ideal medium to market this.
During my
angling career, which has now spanned over 40 years I have witnessed many
developments and
much innovation. I was once billed as the worlds first professional
angler, I was one of the first to introduce an innovatory approach to
teaching videos and imported new concepts from abroad; such as
high-tech fishing lines, wagglers and stick float on winders, new
groundbait secrets and methods, pole float designs, just to mention a
few. Throughout my fishing career, innovation has been the key; and I
was an early pioneer in developing on-line information for
anglers.
And
therefore with this manual, with so many methods available to catch
each type of species, I hope to show anglers, whether they are a
beginner or experienced, the methods that I use and hopefully by
putting your ideas with mine, should produce extra fish into the net. Within this manual I shall also
cast my mind back to old methods and techniques that if introduced with
todays methods, would certainly increase our chances of a good days
fishing.
Today,
fishing venues are being carefully managed and stocked with good
selected quality fish, while fishing tackle is also improving all the
time, hence record fish and catches are constantly being broken.
Anglers
generally fall into three categories;
1. Pleasure anglers, who fish purely for the enjoyment of
the sport.
2. Match
anglers, who enjoy the competitive element of man against man and
catching more fish than his opponents.
3.
Specimen anglers who specialise in catching large fish of a selected
species.
Which ever
kind of angler you are or hope to be, there is no question that this
great sport of fishing demands some form of skill and patience. And
apart from the pleasure of fishing, most anglers usually enjoy being
close to
nature and I am sure after reading this ebook and then putting the
information into practice, it will be tremendously rewarding
We are
now in
an exciting stage of development within fishing generally, the
development of man made super fisheries, including specimen lakes,
match lakes and all round fisheries. As well as cleaner rivers, canals
and waterways, we are now catapulting angling well into the 21st
century.

If you can
pre-bait, go for plain brown crumb with sweetcorn, casters and chopped
up worms added, a drop of your favourite flavour/additive wouldn’t go
amiss. Dead maggots are a good attractor - freeze some overnight to
kill them, or use a pellet pump and draw the air off. Put them in the
fridge and soon they will be dead. Before adding them to the crumb, try
pouring boiling water over them to ‘cook’ them -They will expand and it
just means they stay put on the bottom and are more visible to passing
fish.

River Roach
|
Tiny hooks with a
well-balanced rig and a trickle of bait every cast will soon pick up
fish. Adding small
particles of gravel in the groundbait will make the groundbait sink
fast and hold bottom before breaking up slowly along the riverbed. The
addition of crushed hempseed will add a little fizz as it spreads
through the water levels.

Barbel
The front ray of the
dorsal
fin is hard and thick with a clearly toothed edged for which care needs
to be taken to prevent it snagging on netting.
