Introduction
Hi from
Clive
Branson and welcome to YOUR
VIEWS page.
During
my
angling career,
which has now spanned over 40 years (see My Story),
I have witnessed many developments and much innovation. Billed as the
worlds first professional angler, I introduced an innovatory approach
to teaching videos and imported new concepts from abroad; high-tech
fishing lines, wagglers and stick float on winders, new groundbait
secrets and methods, pole float designs, just to mention a few. Throughout
my career,
innovation has been the key; I was an early pioneer in developing
on-line information for anglers (see this archive for my
first introduction). This angling web site was one of the first in the
UK, established in 1997. The internet is now a
crucial tool for anglers, benefiting us all well into the future;
Therefore I hope you enjoy My

much useful information as you

OLD TACKLE CAN YOU HELP!
hi Clive,<>
Many years ago I inherited my father's fishing
tackle and I've been keeping it dry and warm for nearly 40 years ! I've been thinking of
selling it (I think there are some worthwhile items) but have
no idea
of its value. Briefly the kit comprises:- an Aspindale
Severndale
split cane match rod (which my father used to fish the all-England on
many
occasions) in the original bag, it looks flawless, has all the original
bungs
in the ferrels etc. (unused since 1964 and hung up in a
wardrobe in
the spare bedroom). There is also a Hardy
Conquest 4
1/8" reel in perfect condition and in the original box with price
£4/4/- (4 guineas) which I suspect is worth selling. Both
of these items
are at least 50 years old. the rest of the
kit (
casts, floats, ambidex centre pin reel etc) is in a wicker fishing
basket of
the same vintage. There is a second anonymous split cane rod. Would you
or could you recommend someone who can give me an idea of the value
of such things ? Any help would be much
appreciated Thanks, Pete Veasey

Dear
Mr. Branson,
We from the Italian Headquarters of the European School
of
Management are
currently working along with the Regional Tourism Agency in a project
to
develop the fishing tourism in the Piedmont Region. In order to
structure the
project in a solid way, we are interested in all the data and
statistics we can
obtain concerning sports fishing (local and abroad).
Considering we have been working on this for some time now, a
reasonable amount
of data has been collected. However, there are still some gaps and we
would be
really gratefull if you could help in that. Here are the specific
information
that would be of great value to us:
-Total Number of sports fishermen in the World -Most
popular
destinations for fishing in Europe
and abroad
(maybe an idea of percentage per destination) -The annual
growth
of sports fishing since around the year 2000 -Seasonality
of the
activity
How
long do the fisherman stay, in average I understand the
information required is very specific,
but anything you could add would be of great use, even if it concerns
only your
specific market
Thank
you so much for the help Yours truly,
ecunha@escp-eap.it
BANDITS???
Morning, Just
wanted to make a query with regards to Gold Valley in Surrey. Is this
the only
place that rips off parents ?? my son liked to fish here but doesn’t
drive, its
too far to walk and now this place wants £5 just for me to sit
there and bring
money to the Raison clan.. There are no concessions for
young
aspiring fishermen, so now its costing me £20 for two rods just
to get cold and
wet. Bandits and thieves, not a place to go. Best Regards, Martin Smith, Martin.Smith@servicetec.com
Thanks

OLD TACKLE FOR REVIEW
dear
clive,
if you wanna pass any old tackle queries thru to me, I can probably
help. Though
still churning out a weekly column for The Independent on Sunday, I
also run
Classic Angling, a magazine for those who collect old tackle, like the
classic
fishing stories or those who are just interested in the history of
fishing. best
email is keith@pma-group.com.
There's
website www.classic-titles.com
but
it's way out of date. must get round to it...Don't do the world
championships
any more: been there, dun that, and it's bloody hard work. hear you've
been
through some tuff times. Still fishing a bit (but it's never enough, is
it?)
though not in matches any more. you have to work too hard to keep up.
best
wishes, keith elliott

Dear

come higher up the search engine listings depending on popularity,
which they
measure by the number of external links to a website from other sites

WINTER BREAK
My wife and I returned from
Spain just a week ago.We were there on a factfinding mission and were
visiting
a little fished area of the river Ebro. It was 17 November, the weather
was
still warm enough to walk around in Tshirts and sunbathe on the beach.
We sat
by the river having a beer when we noticed a couple of herons and a
couple of
cormorants on the far bank. An eagle flew by too. Common carp were in
the
shallows just a few feet away and
catfish were there in abundance splashing around every now and then
andmaking
their presence very clear. The area is surrounded by mountains and
access to
the river was easy. No bamboo jungles to wade through to get to the
water here!
I for one will certainly be fishing here next time I go.What I couldn't
understand
is why so few people fish this area when all around there are companies
specialising in the upstream stretches near the dams. There is
certainly good
sport to be had where we were. Just thought I'd let people know that
there is
good fishing in the less known less commercialised areas of the Ebro.
